Registered Charity Number 1058931 THE POOLE AND DISTRICT CHILDREN’S CANCER FUND
Secretary and Treasurer’s Annual Report 1st September 2018 to 31st August 2019
Registered address: The Quillet, Corfe Lodge Road, Broadstone, Dorset, BH18 9NF
The Poole and District Children’s Cancer Fund aims to enhance the quality of life for local children, and their families, undergoing treatment for cancer.
The Charity is run entirely by volunteers. The Trustees during the year were:
Dr Martin Hussey Chairman
Mr Kevin Allen Treasurer / Hospital Liaison
Mrs Caroline Field Secretary
Mrs Natalia Czernik Fundraising coordinator
The charity was founded by Dr. Martin Hussey and Margaret Clark twenty three years ago. Dr Martin Hussey has continued to chair the charity with great dedication over the years for which the trustees are most grateful. This year he has been instrumental in writing policies and updating the constitution along with getting the website up and running.
The Charity continues to help individual children and families in accordance with its Mission Statement. This includes financial help in the form of individual family support for bills, transport and rent; pantomime visits; a Christmas meal in a Polish restaurant and the annual visit to Center Parcs – all popular events. The charity continues to fund a half day a week position for a dietician, which has proved invaluable.
The trustees are very thankful to those who have been involved in fundraising and making donations using the following means:-
-
Virgin Giving
-
Standing orders
-
Personal donations
-
Donations in memoriam
-
School events and special events, balls etc
Income and donations this year have been less than previous years, with no Virgin Giving donations since December.
This year, sadly we have lost two of our life members, and so there are now only 11 life members.
All trustee committee meetings have continued to be held at The Royal British Legion, Broadstone and we are grateful to the Legion for providing a meeting room at no charge.

Funds held at 31st August 2018 were over £44k, which represents about 3 years funds at the present annual expenditure and therefore the Trustees are able to consider further activities, maintaining and increasing individual child and family help while having a sustainable Charity for the foreseeable future.
We are pleased to report that the charity continues to have good interest from the local community, and also friends and families of patients.
The charity will continue its efforts in order to help more children, and their families, whilst undergoing treatment for cancer.
